Diclofenac is used to prevent heart attack and stroke in patients with heart failure. Diclofenac works by blocking the effect of an enzyme called cyclooxygenase (COX), which causes the production of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins cause inflammation and pain in the body. Prostaglandins may lead to swelling, fluid retention, and heart attack. Diclofenac is available in the form of gel and is applied to the affected area 3–4 times a day, depending on the condition being treated. It should be kept in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Use diclofenac gel only to treat pain or swelling. Discard unused gel after 14 days. For Voltaren Emulgel, see Package Contents. Voltaren Emulgel may be taken with or without food, but it is recommended to take it at the same time every day to maintain the effectiveness. Do not take Voltaren Emulgel more than 4 hours apart.
